Naples in a weekend

You have chosen to book flights and hotels. Weekend in Naples, or why not even a midweek bridge.

These days will be intense and full of pleasant things to do and see.

The first day devotes your time to visit the historic city center.

It is the right and wisest choice to make. A way to get acclimatized and begin to understand the city.

Read the guide to visit Naples in 1 day, you can use it as a starting point for the day 1 of your weekend in Naples.

In the evening, before returning to the hotel, I suggest you to dine on the seafront or in Borgo Marinari, the village at the foot of Castel dell'Ovo.

If you are, in sweet company do not miss the thrill of a candlelight dinner in one of the restaurants of Marechiaro. Marechiaro , in the Posillipo district, is a corner of paradise.

Day 2

Pompeii tour with a visit to the excavations and the Vesuvio

Expenses required to visit the Vesuvio:

  • Tickets for the circumvesuviana: 3,20 € each
  • Biglietti per la navetta per il cratere del Vesuvio: 2,70 € ciascuno
  • oppure

  • Tickets for the Vesuvius crater shuttle with the Eav service 22 € (including one-hour guided tour ) with the Busvia Vesuvio

Expenses required to visit Pompei:

  • Entrance to the site of the Pompeii excavations: reduced tickets 7,50 € each

Total for the day 25 - 42 €

The second day of the tour takes place entirely in Pompeii so the first thing you need to know is how to reach Pompeii.

Starting from the station of Central Naples you can reach Pompei through the trains of the Circumvesuviana line. The stop that interests us is that of Pompei Scavi - Villa of the Mysteries . From there it is possible to take the BusVia del Vesuvio service buses or an EAV service shuttle that leads to the Vesuvio volcanic crater reserve.

To continue the visit of the volcano you have to pay a ticket, which varies depending on where you start. The ticket price ranges from € 7-8 to just over € 20 and is almost always inclusive of a guide service.

The visit of Vesuvius will take you to climb the slopes of this majestic volcano up to an altitude of more than 1000 meters. Once you reach that altitude you can admire one of the most enchanting natural landscapes in the world, which includes the gulf of Naples, Salerno and much more. Once at the top, you can also be enchanted by the majesty of the crater and touch the volcanic rock that composes it.

After the visit of Vesuvius you can return to Pompeii Scavi station by going backwards. The excavations of Pompeii are just a few steps away from there.

The one of the Pompeii excavations is the largest archaeological site in the world and we suggest you take the whole afternoon to visit it all and let yourself be enchanted by this magical atmosphere that will make you relive the greatness of past eras.

The excavations of Pompeii have a cost for the whole ticket of 13 € and 7 € 50 for a reduced ticket.

Both for the visit to the Vesuvius and for the excavations of Pompeii you can be subject to special discounts by visiting the sites in particular days such as, for example, the first Sunday of each month, where both sites are often open for free.

After the visit of the excavations you just have to go back to the Circumvesuvana station of Pompei Scavi and take the train that will take you back to the central station of Piazza Garibaldi.

If you want to spend the day in total privacy and without the stress of taking public transport here you will find the prices for private or group excursions LINK DA MODIFICARE.

Day 3

You are on the last day. You have seen most of the Historic Center and have spent a pleasant day visiting the Archaeological Excavations of Pompeii and the Vesuvius National Park.

It is time to deepen and conclude your visit to Naples.

Early in the morning I suggest you visit the Archaeological Museum of Naples.

After visiting the Museum, in my opinion, you can choose to know the subsoil of Naples by visiting the Catacombs of San Gennaro or Napoli Sotterranea. Both sites are easily accessible from the Archaeological Museum.

Or relax by giving your eyes and your taste immense pleasures. How?

After the visit to the Archaeological Museum of Naples, take the Montesanto and Sali funicular to Vomero. Here is the immense and splendid image of Naples from the Certosa di San Martino.

The Vomero district is full of bars, restaurants and shops. Here you can spend a few hours to have lunch and relax.

If you still have time go to via Palizzi to give yourself the last look at the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius before returning home.
