In a perfect world people shouldn’t have to advocate for LGBT rights, because it would not be needed. Unfortunately, we do not live in such a world.
For this reason, sometimes for gay people is not easy to choose a location without information about how much “gay friendly” the city is.
In the Gay Travel Index 2017 Italy was classified in the fifty-seven position for LGBT rights in the world. In the first position there was Sweden and in the last one Somalia. The more gay friendly vacation location in Italy was the Tuscan coast of Versilia whereas in southern Italy is now becoming popular the Cilento area and Marina di Camerota.
However, Naples it’s now playing a crucial role for LGBT rights, after it’s been nominated for the most gay-friendly city of the South. It was indeed, the first city to allow a same-sex couple to legally adopted a child, one of the first to allow the same sex marriages and to organize a gay parade every year. It’s not wrong to say that Naples fights discrimination daily and send out a message of hope and inclusion.
In the city it’s also located the “Diversity house” a place where people can freely meet without any judgment and at the same time LGBT associations can have a safe place to talk and discuss. Several associations are also working daily to let Naples become even more gay-friendly through events and specific tours.
